Every high street bank has to offer a basic bank account, regardless of past history. I was in your position and opened one with Natwest. This came with a Solo debit card which is handy.Lloyds will offer you a cash card which can be used only in their ATMs or at the Post Office. If they refuse a payment for lack of funds under £10, they make no charge. RBS cash card can be used in any ATM. One good thing from a basic bank account is that they don't charge on charges. You pay one fee for insufficent funds. Good luck.

It shouldn't be a problem no matter what your credit is like. You may not get a line of credit or overdraft protection but an account shouldn't be a problem.

depends what you want. what your not likely to get is an account with a debit card, however if you just want an account to pay your wages into and pay bills from -

look to nationwide. their flex-account comes with cash point card only, but does give you the ability to do standing orders, direct debits and online banking - what more do you need from a bank account.

no overdraft (well thats good) and you have to go into the branch to get cheques, but i do everything from mine, and they gave me mine 2 weeks after i went bankrupt.

www.accountnow.com is your best bet. I personally used this bank, it is all done online. You get a checking account and a visa/mc logo debit card. No checks, but they offer free online bill pay and you can get your payroll directly deposited. Off course there is a catch, but its minimal...they charge a 3.95 service fee monthly.

If you have problems because of a previous checking account Wachovia will let you open a joint account with someone who does qualify, then after a year you can have your own account.
