When you honestly realize that you can't be 'good', then it's time for Jesus. If you go through life believing you are 'good enough', you can't get better. Humans need to take what they have, and trade it for what is behind door number two. God, through Jesus.
IMHO. Don't worry about 'hell'. Why not try to find some similarities between how you believe people should be treated, and how Jesus said people should be treated? You may find that the two of you agree. Here's how you do it. Find a bible with Jesus' words highlighted, and only read those words. Thomas Jefferson actually put together a book called the Jefferson Bible, with only Jesus' words in it. He respected Jesus, but not religion.

If you don't believe in God, why do you believe in hell? It sounds to me like you claim to not believe in God, but you are still God-fearing like most other people. You have asked a very difficult philosophical question which you will not get a full and complete answer to on Yahoo! Answers, but, in my opinion, if you believe in the power of hell, you also believe in the power of God. Apparently you care for human beings, so according to my beliefs, as long as you start praying and beliveing in God, you will not go to hell. Nobody knows what truly happends after death, but my philosophy is to lead a good and honest life and trust in God. That way, on my deathbed I will at least have complete peace of mind.
Good luck! I hope you find an answer to your dilemma.

No you won't... but I don't believe in God either. I don't have words for how absurd is that Christian belief that good people will burn in hell forever just for not believing in Jesus. But if these Christians were right, I would prefer to go to hell, because I would like to spend eternity with good people and not with these people who think their fellow human beings deserve to be tortured forever just for believing something different.
I am just quite upset because of many of the previous answers.

do you believe in love? because God is love.
as for hell God demands perfection which leaves us with our lousey choices in a bad position. however because God and love are the same he also loved us enough to send his son to be made a man and ultimatly be made the sacrifice for our sin. and allowed us to have a relationship with him. heaven or hell is your choise. because we have done evil no amount of good can make up for it. an example would be that a murderer can never do enough good to make up for the bad. Jesus is our only way out in jerimiah he is called "our rightiousness" and without accepting him we are damned.

(Revelation 20:10-to-15) And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
(Rev 20:11) And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
(Rev 20:12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
(Rev 20:13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
(Rev 20:14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
(Rev 20:15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Thanks, RR

The simple fact is, your question stalls out when you bring up the word Hell. First; the word hell derives for Hades or Sheol which means grave, so yes, you will eventually end up in Hell. Since we haven't conqured death, we will all end up there....at least our physical bodies will. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead giving you a chance at eternal life is a whole different question. He did in fact die in your place, so you don't have to go into total destruction. You'll find that spoken of in the Book of Revelation, and it's called the Lake of Fire which a lot of Christians refer to as Hell. What it really is, is, the total destruction of Satan and all of his little wanna be followers. I suggest that during the 1000 year of Christ, that you get on the correct path so you don't end up taking a long hot dip into destruction. Got to love God, he's wonderful at making sure his children get a second crack at what the devil has tried so poorly to steal from mankind. And that's a good relationship with the Creator. You asked, so I felt obliged to explain. Hope it helped you out, and just in case you don't know...God loves you! I bet you never thought he respond to a question you posted online. He's been trying to get your attention many times before. I hope this time you give him a listen. Oh yeah, that big fat book they call the Bible, well it's a true history of man and his falling away from the truth. It would help if you opened it up and read a little of it....you just might be happily suprised at what it says. Also, I think it's important to say it's your responsibility to accept Jesus as the only path to eternal life...which leads to a long lasting relationship with God. If you ask God to save you through the life that Jesus gave up on your behalf, you'll be saved. If Jesus said it...then it's true because he is the Living Word of God, and God can't lie. Just remember to check his word out for yourself. Many so called Christians claim to be of God, but in fact are just wanna be's. Jesus's own words proclaim that not all those saying "Lord Lord" will enter into the kingdom of the Heavens. Only the ones doing his will...will. And the only way to verify what his will is, is by reading it in the Bible. If you want to measure a foot you use a ruler designed to measure. If you want to measure a true Christian...you use the Bible... Greatest Book on Earth. Written by the Greatest God in the universe! YHWH
P.S. People don't burn in Hell for ever and ever either. Those beliefs come from the ones Jesus was talking about when he said not all those saying Lord Lord will enter into the kingdom of the Heavens..they will say" did we not do great works in your name and expell demons in your name , and then he told them he never knew them, and to get away from him because they were workers of iniquity, which is faslehood and lies. A loving God doesn't burn people for ever and ever. He will destroy them in the Lake of Fire, but it's total destruction once and for all. Many so called Christian churches use guilt and false doctrine to control their subjects. Jesus knew this and called the church leaders of his time sons of Vipers (snakes) because they were teaching doctrins of men rather than the word of God. Too bad it's still going on to this day.

If you do not believe in God then you do not believe in Hell either therefore it shouldn't be a problem for you until you die.

If you dont believe in god dont worry about hell. I know deep down in my heart that there is no god. But that is just my opinion. Most religions say you have to have faith in God or Jesus or it's straight to hell (but it's BS in my opinion).

You will go to hell if you don't beleive in god. but god loves enough to accept you into heaven if you beleive that he sacraficed his only son (Jesus) for your sins and live a life of worship and perfection from then on. if you ask me that sounds a lot better than being tortured for eternity.
