so there is this guy at my school. i like him. and sometimes he acts like he likes me. but when someone asks him if he really does lik me, he says he just wants to be friends with benefits. which totally contradicts the way he acts. should i try to change his mind and keep flirting? or leave it with the friends with benefits and just have fun?

Well of course he isn't making it obvious to you that he just wants to get in your pants. That wouldn't be very smooth. Get over him he's got loser potential written all over him. This guy will probably have a child or 2 by the time he is 20.

Maybe you should ask him yourself instead of sending messengers to ask him for you. Maybe they are just lying to you just to mess with him. Ask him to make sure of his intentions, and then I would suggest NOT having "fun", but you don't have to listen to me.
