If it's a modern computer (as in built within the past 2 years) you should be able to install any of the currently available Microsoft Operating Systems, including XP, 2000, 2003, ME, 3.0, 3.1 and probably even DOS>

If you're looking for non MS-OS's you can definitely install Linux (any one of the variants), BSD, and Solaris. All of these are Unix-based systems and are all free to download and install.

Beyond that there's a ton of other OS's that are made for specific uses that would likely also work, but I doubt you'd want to install for general-purpose use.

Depending on your hardware, you can try Windows XP MCE, Windows Vista (if you have a newer pc). There is Windows 2000, Windows ME, and of course 95.

Or you can try a Linux Distrobution....Ubuntu, RedHat, Fedora Core, Debian, or you can go here for a full list of linux distrobutions.
