You would cry too if someone put cold water on you.

Because they don't understand what's happening to them- it makes them feel as if they're not safe. I don't agree w/ baptizing a baby- that's a choice that should be made by the child, not the parents. My husband and I went through a dedication service w/ our daughter- we vowed to raise her in the church, according to God's word. Baptism is a choice she will have to make when she's old enough to understand. The act of baptism is a symbol of being washed of your old life and old ways, and then emerging from the water a new person in Christ. A baby can't make a decision like that.

I think the sudden onslaught of water is unexpected for them and a surprise, so they cry out. At the last infant baptism I attended, the little one reached into the baptismal font herself and started splashing. Then when she was baptised she laughed continually for probably 5 minutes. It was awesome!

That's why we don't believe that babies should be baptised. Baptism is a personal choice, not a parental choice. My husband and I had our son dedicated, but he will be baptised when/if the time is right for him.

Because the babies are having water dripped or immersed on their skin . . . they are in the presence of a stranger (the person performing the baptism . . . and after being held and snuggled close by their parent their clothing / blanket / hat is pulled back and they are not all snuggled in again right then.

Neither of my two boys cried. But, I would imagine it is a difficult situation for a baby, lots of people, being handed to someone you don't know, cold water poured on your head, all while your parents just stand there and watch.

It may be God's way of saying, you're waisting your time and water. It has no value for an infant child.
Baptism is for people who understand that they have made a choice to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior. They are making a public acknowledgment of a personal commitment to Christ.

baptism by the bibles definition is a symbol of dieing to sin and resurrecting into Christs righteousness just as Christ died and rose again. it is also a public display that you have faith in Christ. a baby dose not have the mental experience to come to faith in Christ so the baby isn't a saved baby its just a wet one. as for crying i don't know why.

They don't all cry, but the ones who do are probably crying because a stranger is holding them and pouring water on them.

They're being handed to a stranger, who then pours cold water on their head. I would cry NOW!
