I've received some interesting answers. I'm glad to see some that have been blessed by Lev.
I didn't realize most believers in US time must be at church. I'll be sure to ask this question again.

Thanks for a Good Question. I am Blessed by the Whole Book of LIVITICUS! IT is a picture of How A NATION, choosen by GOD, were to be in All Holiness of Worship, Body, Mind and Spirit!

GOD, never does things Radomly, BUT WITH PURPOSE as He speaks about in Isaiah 55:6-to-11 and in Job 2:9-10.

YET, I read in the Rest of the OT, especially the Minor Prophets that the Abominations of GOD'S Choosen spoken about in Isaiah and Jeremiah were seen in God's SPAKING His Children for their Disobedience!

That same Chastening is seen in 1Corinthians 11:23-to32 Where GOD has to Kill some and Make some SICK! This is paralled to Hebrews 12: God chastening [SPANKING] His children. Acts 5:1-to-11, GOD did so Also, ESPECIALLY V11.

Jesus also gave a vision to Peter that was revealed as meaning, "What God has made Holy is Holy.". That is because God made a way to make the gentile nations Holy & be restored unto God.

That means if we have a so called unclean animal served before us, bless it. It is Holy when we bless our food in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If God directs us not to eat something, then don't.

Some animals are meat eaters, some eat anything (skavengers), some don't have bodies that clean out their toxins, some carry potentially deadly diseases if not heated / cooked at high enouph temperatures. This is the law of the beast, what not to eat and what can be eaten.

No it is not bunk. Shrimp are the cockroaches of the sea. Pigs are filthy and unhealthy (tasty though), and there was no real way to safely store these animals to keep from getting sick. Most of the food laws were just pure common sense at that time. However, Jesus perfected the covenant by telling everyone that which enters the body and is expelled is not unclean. The things that come out of the body are unclean. Thus those food laws were abolished.

I was blessed by what was written in that chapter of Leviticus.
God showed me that it was not just because he chose some to be clean and others to be unclean. He created some animals and other sea life as earth and ocean cleaners.
Pigs for instance eat anything including dead things and others that eat grain and so forth.
It was for health reasons that He wrote what He did not out of an arbitrary decision but for the health of mankind God is sooooo GOOD

Most of the animals that God said were unclean would have been unhealthy to eat at the time. The Israelites lacked many of the preservatives that we now use to keep our foods fresh. Pork is a very difficult meat to preserve, as are most of the other meats that are mentioned in Leviticus. It definitely was not random.

You must realize one thing and that is GD has never asked us to do anything that did not benefit us.

GOD knew the fats in these animals and fishes were not good for us and obesity and upset stomach would occur.

GOD knew there were parasites in the pork.

GOD knew blood was not good to eat.

GOD did not randomly pick anything.

GOD chose to tell us before hand so as to make our own choices and to teach the jews who were of a disobedient nature obedience through the laws.

I have indeed been blessed by Lev 11

Yes I am blessed and benefited from the Dietary Law, and Nope for He did not pick them randomly. If you will read Leviticus 11, you wll notice that, most animals that He forbid to eat are carnivores (meat eating animals) eagle, falcon, owl, and the like. Reptiles are all eater of insects, meat etc. Sharks, eel, catfish, stingray those without scales are unclean. Seafoods like clams, shellfish, lobster, crabs, prawn, shrimps etc. these are the cleaners of the ocean, they usually consume the dirt of the sea. For the pig, horse, camels, rabbits, giraffee, rats etc. these are animals that does not have horns and they are reserve for the carnivores. These are animals without horn are the food of the carnivores. So if you will study carefully, the cycle or balance of nature is there. He provide food for all his creatures. And for Man He gave this Dietary Law to His people for their good sake because He Loves them. If you follow them you can become one of His people and would benifit from following His guide with regards to eating clean (kosher) animals.

Jews follow these commandments because they show obedience to G-d, and remind them of him in everyday life. Plus, pigs and shellfish were more likely to give you diseases (and still are) than sheep/cows. Pigs can pick up diseases easily from eating meat, and shellfish... well, everyone's felt the effect of bad shellfish before I'm sure! Or at least knows someone who has! Not sure about the birds though, but mind you, would be tough to catch and eat a bird of prey anyway.

I say that people pick and choose what they want to follow and ignore the rest. Leviticus also says (in one translation) that homosexuality is an abomination, and a later verse proscribes the penalty for doing this is death.

Why aren't we supporting the death of homosexuals then?

We've already determined as a society that we should not follow the bible literally. In deuteronomy, it also says that a woman who is raped should be forced to marry her assailant. We definitely DON'T do that, so we collectively pick the things we like from the bible and ignore the things we don't like.

The crux is: If there are things like those two sections that we don't trust/can't follow, then what about all the rest of it?

This "book" of the bible is about as stupid a read as any out there....talk about ridiculous. IF everyone followed everything in this nonsensical book, you would find yourself eating little to nothing, almost never having sex, and on and on...obviously written by a hater of people enjoying themselves in doing anything. This is the most controversial book in the bible, should be dropped, and has been by many. good luck
