My Windows Media player won't work properly?

My media player won't play my downloaded films. I click on the file in my documents, it goes to media player to play it, then all I get is the sound but no picture. I can just see the visulisation, not the movie picture. Can you help me, I don't know how to fix it!

For codec info use GSpot. It'll tell you what you need. The only thing it wont help with is MPEG-3/4 and wmv. These you'll have a codec for anyway.
For a player use VLC Media Player. It uses far less system resources, comes with it's own codecs and will play stuff that will crash WMP. It's also freeware.
