Go with your heart and your gut. Always!

You shouldn't let anyone who pictures the situation as religion v science v politics tell you anything. The three disciplines of thought do not contradict each other if properly limited to their own spheres. Science will tell us what happens if we do X, but doesn't tell us anything about whether or not doing X is a good idea. Politics looks to the common organisation of our lives, religion to our personal beliefs.

We start to get problems when politicians deny science (global warming), "scientists" say they have disproved God and religion starts telling us how life arose on earth.

On heart v head, again if you have a conflict you have a problem. The two should work in tandem to organise your thoughts and actions.

Before you talk about following you need to understand about where you are going in the first place.

What is your desired destination? Based on THAT you will select an authority who can get you there most cost-effectively.

The next point is that you need to follow some authority. If you knew where you were going and how to get there then you are your own best authority. Don't complicate life. If you dont need help then dont ask for it. Just go there.

If you need guidance then what are your options?

Assuming you are not self-authorized and were born in darkness and ignorance like the rest of us, you need to find someone qualified to guide you on your chosen path. That is the essence of a guru.

A guru is one who has seen the truth of whatever it is that you are seeking. That is a person who is your senior and who you need to submit to (follow their guidance), respect and serve to acquire your desired knowledge.

Otherwise it is the blind leading the blind,

If you have spiritual aims then religion and a religious mentor is in order.

If you have socio-economic aims then an education and academic teacher is in order.

If you have political aims then politics and a political crony is in order.

Use your head to follow your heart in all the above pursuits. Blind following is always condemned.

The first and foremoste person who can completely trust is yourself, well i dont know how old you are but if you are an adult (18+), than you are your first own adviser.

Somtimes, it's also good to listen to the elders who through experience have come to know where there are pits on the ground while walking on the path of life, you might not see a deep pit before you as you are on your life journey but someone else might so if you neglect their advise, you are just heading into the pit!

So it sort of depend on your age, the younger you are, the more you need to be told what to do and of course from only people who have nothing but love for you; they tell you what to do not because they want to boss you around but because they know something you dont know and find it hard to explain it plainly until age and experience instructs you.

Listen to your heart, before embarking on any course of action, listen to others (friends, family, religion, parents maybe even politicians), weigh up all the info you get and using your own experience and intelligence, hopefully you will do the right thing.

God bless!

Best advice would be to read the relevant literature, decide if it makes an impression on you and then make up your mind :) The best combination is a mix of head and heart. If you just do as you're told you'll never find what your spiritual self is looking for because no one knows you better than you.

the way i see it is, god (if there is a conscious being looking after us) is in your heart, he tells you through conscience what is right and wrong, religion is in the mind, it is the way human beings try to understand what is in the heart, everybody comes to their own realisation of what god is, even within big religious organizations very few people will have the exact same view, do not let people tell you what is in your heart or force doctrines on to you which you do not believe in, if you don't think about what you believe and just follow what you are told to follow, you are wasting the gift of free thought that, if there is a god, was given to you - i myself do not subscribe to any of the major religions as i believe there is something to learn from all of them and i cannot take anyone to be 'the one true way', just look at human history and all the societies in the world and come to your own conclusions, using your god-given gift of reason

If you seek God with all your heart, God promises you will find Him. When you have found Him you will know.

You cannot find Him on your own, that is why He will come to you and reveal Himself to you and why He therefore promises that you will find Him. He knows all things and knows if you are seeking Him and if with all your heart or if your search is genuine. We cannot mock or fool God.

If we are humble, no doubt we will find Him the quicker.

The heart is important because it determines what you follow. It is with the heart that man believes.

The mind is also necessary for it enables you to know. The mind needs to be renewed and enlightened. It is with the mind that man can understand the truth.

Politics... forget politics. Politics will only lead you astray.

It is the truth that you need. It will lead you to God, and God is the truth.

Think of it this way: What would the world be like if people always followed their hearts or did what they were told and never followed their heads. Where would science be? Discovery?

We'd be living in caves clubbing one another to survive.

Head wins - every time!

Friend,

All of the options have been used as a way to control people. As long as you understand that, make your own mind up about what to do. Understand that the truth is like panning for gold in a river. The more you thrash about, the less you will find. Be still and calm, and everything will become clear.

Nothing really verses anything! It is all illusion. It's a people created thing, not God.

The thing you should follow is you're self! Believe in who you are and what you really believe. Use that as you're guidance.

Then you're head, you're heart, and you're soul and spirit will be truly integrated as one united being, and force.

The Bible also says, "The kingdom of God is within you."

And that does not mean that God does'nt exist. That is who we connect it all with. And we are never separate from that. That is an illusion as well!
