How could i go about this? Cob is a material used in medievel times in western europe and it is simply mud and straw to build house walls. I gather the method is seeing a small revival?

House prices are out of my reach this is my option, presuming of course it does turn out to be cheaper. (i have some land for construction, well my dad does)

Check that it wasnt April Fools day when you heard there was to be a revival - it sounds like a load of old cobblers to me - he he !!! Sorry I coudn't resist that one! To make it cheap you could get the mud and straw bit by bit as you need it from the garden and local farmyards.

I doubt if you would get a general contractor to do it becasue of building codes. A GC is obligated to build to building codes which now have all sorts of requirments to withstand storm and earthquake forces. Im not sure that mud and straw would do this.
