Okay, the key here isn't to go for the cheapest iron, but to go for the best iron. I know the cost is a lot at first, but it will save you money and time in the long run.
I have used a CHI iron for several years and I like it a lot. The HAI irons are good also. They have solid ceramic plates. Many of the "ceramic" irons out there have a ceramic powder coating over metal plates, and they just don't work very well.
Also, NEVER iron naked hair. That means, use a product to help you get your hair straight. Use one that is a thermal protectant, because it will keep the iron from scorching your hair and it will get much more straight than ironing naked. Ask your hairdresser or beauty supplier for a flat iron spray.

I also have a CHI iron and I like it a lot (I got it on eBay). I've had cheaper irons in the past but they were harder to use and didn't work as well. Also, the CHI irons will last a long time if you take care of them (and don't let them fall on the floor). My friend had a cheaper iron that worked well for her at first but eventually it just stopped getting hot and now she's getting a CHI after borrowing and really liking mine. There are other brands that are supposed to be good (like the T3 Tourmaline ones) but I bought one from Sephora (for a ridiculous $200!) and it didn't work well for me at all...I returned it and went back to the CHI.

I LOVE my Chi! It is the best. Makes your hair so straight and soft. MAke sure you use bio silk on your hair if you flat iron it! My chi was about $110 at JC Penney's but they have them on ebay for about $70. A seller on ebay, esalon has great products!

chi irons work relli well but they are sumetimes a little overpriced.. i would recommend conair ,,they have a 1 and a half inch iron that eliminates frizz and keeps your hair looking healthy insted of burnt.. it is only$30 and i think it is s very useful product. its called the conair wet to dry iron..

You can get some decent ones for around £50 that work well and for top of the range straighteners (GHDs) they cost £99.

Get a Chi, it costs about $120 at stores. I bought mine in ebay for $60. It's the best you can get.
