Baked Yams
1 cured sweet potato (yam)
Wash and dry. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking until potatoes are soft; about 1 hour for medium potatoes and l 1/2 hours for large. Hint: Do not wrap sweet potatoes with foil because it will steam the sweet potato and you will not have that sweet, syrupy flavor of a good baked yam. This is also true of yams cooked in the microwave.

For large sized sweet potatoes - pierce with a fork on each side, wrap in aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour in 350 degree oven. OR Microwave pierced potatoes on high setting for 5 minutes. Add time when baking several at a time.

Same as a regular baked potato. Till it is soft when you gently squeeze it. Approx an hour in the oven at 350 degrees

it you are boiling it, it should be fork tender. If you are baking it it should be the same until it is soft. I don't recommend microwaving them .
