Well the answer is in the question isn't it?
The Americans don't speak\write English, the American's speak\write American.
I have noted some people have ranted on about the american's 'bastardising' our native language, but think it over, all they've done is learned and adapted the language to suit their own needs, which is what mankind does, learn & adapt.
So the answer to that part of the question is British People Speak \ Write better English than the American's and in fact the rest of the world.
Now as for who Listens better, As a nation on the whole America does, I say this mainly because when the American people say No! It's government (usually) listen's, where as when us British say No! OUR government sticks it's fingers up and pisses on the little guy.

The answer is very easy and straight forward. England is the home of the language and therefore the definitive. But it goes further than that. Many countries in the world speak English as the main or secondary language and all speak British English.
America on the other hand has bastardised the language, changing spellings, using totally different words and attempted to invent 'American'.
The real point though is not who speaks the better English but the fact that so many people world wide are now speaking a common language allowing the free flow of ideas and the search for global consensus and peace to flourish.

As an American, I recognise the English spoken by Brits as much more formal. I see that someone here says that Americans don't know how to spell words properly. This indicates ignorance; I would like to think that most people know that the spelling of some words is different, not wrong. I admire as well as enjoy listening to some (educated) British speak; although sometimes the accent annoys me.

The British most likely have the better ability when it comes to mastery of the language.
Also, American English is not a language. It is a dialect, and is accepted just as Puerto Rican Spanish is. Not only that, but dialects also vary within countries, so get over the differences. It is ridiculous to exppect people who live 5,000 to 8,000 miles from each other to speak the same way.

conversing English properly and conversing English like the human beings are 2 fairly some issues....somewhat while it includes writing it down. u.s. is a distinctive u . s . with distinctive idioms and slang words and so on. pass to the different u . s . the place English is the expert language, like New Zealand or Barbados, and you will discover that's the same. No such u . s . speaks English 'greater helpful' than others because of the fact all of them have their very own version of the language.

What a stupid question. I'm pretty anti-American with regard to their government and their over-arching self importance but this is just an inflammatory, stupid question. English speak English, Americans speak American English. There is lots to criticise America over but this isn't one of those things.

It depends on whether you are talking about the English spoken in the UK or in America. There are different words in each language, though I don't know why. A fair test would be to see who does the best in the dialect that they were taught.
Both countries have some horrific variations from the standard that are difficult to follow.

It goes neither way. Groups on both sides have horrible grammar, and groups on both sides have excellent grammar, neither has completely all excellently-educated people in the English language. However, in a few years, I would answer the Brits, judging by my schooling experience. In tenth grade a girl asked what "to apprehend" means. I knew that word when I was six, and she knew it not at sixteen.
Americans are stupid enough to take for granted the freedom they have in their country to basicaly do whatever they want, and In the future, Americans won't even remember why they have those rights.

What is English? As it is spoken in Wales, Northumberland, Glascow, or Cornwall. After all It is our language; part German, part French, Greek, Italian, etc. etc. but it is our language. The Americans also have a language but it sure isn't English.
Anyway whoever heard of an American LISTENING. Too busy telling the world how great they are.
A good language is one that can be understood by your countrymen ( or country persons, to be policically correct. What bollocks) Theirs works for the Americans.
