Use burn cream if you have it. Aspirin helps too. Periodically use cold water like you are already doing.

Try using Garlic oil. Use this oil or garlic mashed well in one of the oils mentioned above to soothe and heal.
Olive oil, sunflower oil, pumpkin seed oil or wheatgerm oil: All of these will bring relief to a painful burn or scald and will improve the chances of healing without blister or scar.
White petroleum jelly (Vaseline): These will also ease the sting of the burn, keep out infection and reduce the risk of skin cracking
Clean with household anti-bacterial soap (aka Dial or Safeguard) then take a bowl of COOL, definetly not cold, and soak a few regular grocery store black tea bags into the water for a few minutes (during this time, take an Advil or other ibuprofen type based pain reliever to reduce swelling as well as the pain). When the tea has steeped into the water, soak the affected area (the tannic acid naturally found in black tea dramatically reduces the pain associated with household burns that do not require professional medical treatment). Once the area begins to feel better, do NOT rinse the tea off the skin; however, just GENTLY bandage the area with NON-STICK breathable (aka no plastic bandages). I hope this helps you should you ever have to endure the pain of burns.
If you have a small burn, take witch hazel and put it on the area where the burn is..if u keep the witch hazel there the burn will not hurt, but once u move the witch hazel ur gonna feel that pain again..it helps for temp. relief..
Also for burn use a aloe vera plant, take one of the leave type things open it up to where the gell type stuff is out and rub it on the area where the burn or cut is...
Colgate toothpaste is a great salve for burns.
More listed on the site provided below I used witch hazel, aloe vera, cool tea bags and neosporin to prevent scarring. Be careful running cold water, the burn will turn read and could hurt more. Try rubbing ice or holding a ice pack over the burn until someone can find the above items for you to help relieve the discomfort. Never use butter.

cold water is best.
but you should have second skin at the house at all times for burns. It is amzaing!! go to the link below.
what you do is apply the gel disk to your burn and tape it on. It immediately takes away the pain. Keep it covered with a gel at all times for the next 2-3 days and you wont even get a blister or scar!
I burned my arm with a curling iron and put second skin on for 2 days and now you cant even see where the burn was. Also no pain!! you can get it at Target or any drug store.

If it is just red(like a sun burn,1st degree burn) run it under cool water for 15-20 minutes, take a pain reliever(aspirin,Tylenol,Motrin etc.)wrap it loosely in gauze after drying to keep it clean. If it has any swelling or blistering(2ND degree burn) or broken blackened skin(3rd degree burn) you need to see a doctor immediately.

Ice it but not too much. Don't use burn cream right away because it traps the heat in. If it was a bad burn (2nd or 3rd degree) go to a doctor.

i know this may sound foolish but add mustard. leave it on until the mustard dries off and the wash your hands. The mustard helps ease the pain and also helps eliminate the chances of developing a scar. I hope my advice helped!!
