Velázquez with a "z" is from Castilla, specifically from Cuéllar.
(Spain).

That as far as the origin, but you will find both Velásquez or Velázquez all over South America.

Velazquez is an originally Spanish name. That means FROM SPAIN.
It spread over the Americas when the Spanish conquered all the territory where today we find the Spanish speaking Latin-American nations, including - of course - Mexico.
Velazquez = Son of Velazco.

As a Brown person id say this to any White person because it's the truth and you can choose to believe it or not, also, this might apply to some Black people too. I like Rap/Hip Hop etc because i identify more with percussion and rhythm than i do stringed Music which is predominantly White even though their are hundreds of exceptions. NOT because i wanna be Black or because i self hate, i love reggaeton and Arabic music also but im not a huge fan of White orientated music.

No, like the majority of surnames in Latin America it's of Iberian origin; Basque specifically. It originates from the 'Basque Country' region in Spain. The city of Ponce was most likely named after Ponce de Leon. Whereas, people with the surname of 'Ponce', most likely either have Basque ancestors or their ancestors were owned as slaves by Basque masters. Basques are a minority ethnic group in Spain, by the way; they speak a language that has no relation to Spanish. Many popular Latin American surnames are of Basque origin - Echavarria - is one for example.

actually, almost all the names of mexico and south america are mainly spanish, and not from south america at all. there are some from french and portugese anscestry. very few are from the original languages used in south america and mexico prior to the arrival of the spaniards in the fifteen hundreds.
the arrival of the spanish resulted in the nearly total destruction of mayan and aztec culture and languages, as well as almost all other original languages.
