Supply and demand - simple economics follow the money. The sports team is willing to pay for physical prowess to give them an edge on the field. We as patrons are willing to pay $100 and more for a ticket to watch them.

How many people would pay to watch your math teacher do math on a Sunday afternoon?

Because we live in a world dictated by market forces. Big business pay big money for advertising. If your college professor came to class wearing a Nike sweatshirt, would it encourage you or you class mates to buy one? Well maybe it would, but Tiger Woods wearing one it likely to reach a bigger market.

But isn't it possible that some sports professional did not have access to an education. Many boxers for example started by fighting in the streets of deprived areas and decided to channel their frustation into sport instead. If people are talented and have worked hard to attain their position in their profession, is it fair that they shouldn't get paid for that just because they're "education" wasn't formal.

because people like you and me pay a lot of cash for entertainment...sports,,movies ,,music....and entertainers get payed real well... professors dont bring in the volume of cash so they make less.. it does seem unfair.that firefighters and cops and other people who have very hard jobs and risk their lives every day dont make crap..but some drugged out rock-star can make millions...so pick your profession carefully..
