Actually - there are some companies that make cleaners for CD laser lenses.

They usually result in making a "mud" which is left behind on your lens - leaving you to do as the above responder suggested.

You don't have to. CD cleaner discs are a product designed to take advantage of the general publics lack of knowledge on how CD players work.
There is not an audio head as used in any type of audio tape machine. It is a laser emitter pickup that detects the minor variations and deflections embedded on a CD.
The only time you would have to clean your CD player is when it is used in an overly dusty environment (dust can collect on the laser and/or the pickup) or if an outside product (let's say a Big Gulp) was spilled into the CD player accidentally. Either circumstance would require the removal of the CD player chassis cover and a thorough cleaning of the internals.
