Three years ago, people gave over $20,000 to a woman named Karyn (http://www.savekaryn.com) to help her pay off credit card debt she wracked up. I started a website http://www.helpasingleparent.com) and no one seems interested in helping. I know no one's obligated to help, but I really don't understand why people would be willing to help someone pay off their bills for purses, shoes, and lattes and not help a hardworking single parent who just needs a break and some help getting bills paid. Any thoughts? I'd love to hear them.

In terms of marketing psychology, a website with the name "Karyn" puts a more personal touch on things, drawing in more attention vs. a 'single parent' handle.

People will react more to something they can put a face on, so to speak.

As a single parent myself, I can understand your dilemma, cause, unlike some pre-concieved notion, I strive to meet my own goals through my own merit and hard work. Stereotypes do not help and it is the narrow-minded or ignorant who pigeon-hole single parents, for the most part. And, no, not all single parents have neccesarily gotten themselves into a predicament. Life happens when you've made other plans...happens to the best of us...

I think society is getting tired of so many people expecting a handout. Personally, I work way too hard for my money (I work with developmentally disabled children and adults and I make $8.75 an hour after 5 years on the job and have no paid time off or benefits) to just give it away. I donate to select charities, but anyone can make a website begging for money.

Being a shopaholic or a single parent should not entitle anyone to a handout.

hmmm maybe I should start a website asking people to help support my dog show habit :) Anyone want to pay my travel costs? Underwrite my entry fees? Buy me a rally set from JandJ dog supplies? And I'd really love a new puppy.

Dont give a Man a fish to feed his family, Give him a Boat so he can fish for his family..Same applies here dude.. I agree people should help because contrary to popular belief the poorest people in our communities are at best single Parents (mostly ) Women. That fact has been proven in My Country Ireland by The St Vincent Paul Society. There are people who have a terrible negative approach to Single mothers believeing they get all their living expenses paid by the State. Wrong wrong wrong wrong.. Nothing could be further from the truth.. I wish people would stop being bigots and open there eyes to the truth..

Lots of charities out there. I haven't seen your website, but it would help if you actually list what you do with the money. Help pay rent or buy groceries? Buy cars for people dependant on the bus system? Help with child care? You also need to advertise the site. Good luck.

They probably didn't actually give any money to Karyn, I think you got hustled by a fake *** "e-commerce" business.

Wow, I'm shocked. Was her site well advertised by some reality show?? Maybe it's all about advertising
