Looking to get a car for my fiance. Which would you guys prefer?

Well the Focus has better suspension, is roomier inside, & gets better fuel economy, has a pass-thru from back seat to trunk.
Also the Focus has a hieght adjustable driver seat & when coupled with the (optional) telescoping tilt wheel, it will be comfortable for any size driver (short, tall, fat, skinny & everything in between)
So I say go with the Focus.

Focus 3 door Hatchback would be my choice of those two, but I'd also consider a Dodge Caliber, or if you can wait a few months, that new Jeep Patriot that is coming out. Both of those cars can be bought with AWD, which would be really nice if you live in a climate with snowy or icy roads.
Note, that Focus 3 door hatchback is built in a different plant than the Focus 4 door sedan. The sedan is the vehicle that seems to have the most problems.

I have owned a Focus and it was a great car -I traded it for a 4X4 because my job takes me up some horrible roads .The Focus took these roads great except when it was stuck up to its bumper in mud. I've never owned a Cobalt though so cant truly say which is better.

Folks like both of them, but the Focus is the most recalled automobile ever sold in the U.S. Might say something about the reliability. Cobalt on the other hand has had it's share of troubles as well. Neither is rated highly in dependability rankings.

Get the Cobalt as you may be able to get OnStar in it..I did have a focus once years ago though and it was a good car to me.

If those were my only two choices? Focus. The Cobalt is ugly in my opinion.

From these two the focus but i would look at teh civic.
