I am interested in pharamacy, because I really enjoy learning about drugs/medicine properties and effects on body. I am in nursing school now, and haven't met prerequisites. Any comments/suggestions on how to meet this goal of becoming a competent pharmacist? I am unmarried and without children, if that helps, but I will work as a nurse after graduation and support myself through PharmD school. Thanks for any comments. Really appreciate it..

Why dont't you continue your education in nursing school until you obtain the degree for nurse practitioner? Pharmacists undergo a 6 year Pharm.D program and nurse practitioners have a 4 year Baccalaureate degree (BSN) and then a 2 years master's program. They both make an average of $100,000 a year and most of their courses are related. I don't think its practical to switch.

First, look at what classes you have. If you are going for a BSN, I know there is some overlap in courses. If you really want to become a pharmacist, then you will find a way. If your nursing school offers a more advanced pharmacology elective, take it. When you graduate, talk with the pharmacists where you work. It's a long road.

Go for it girl. If you are taking a degree versus diploma program you should be able to transfer credit over to the pharmacy program. Most universities have their info on prerequisites on line, you could call and talk to someone. The other option would be to do a registered practical nurse, RPN program, (a step down from RN) as you will finish it faster and still make a decent income, then go into the university end of things. Best of luck and study hard. Remember you can do anything you put your mind to.
