If your internet service is the least bit lackluster, I'd get it working tops right away or switch ISP's before considering a VoIP service. When I got Vonage, Time Warner was out here about 5 times trying to make my internet work good enough so that I'd get decent Vonage service. I guess I never noticed how bad my internet was until I got something that completely depended on my internet's reliability. My cable from the street had to be completely replaced, and I had to exchange my cable modem. Also, my cable modem has a built in wireless router. Normally, the Vonage device prioritizes the telephone data packets over the computer internet traffic so that your computer won't monopolize your internet connection. However, this requires the Vonage device to be the first thing in line and all your computers should be connected to it. Since the wireless is built into the cable modem, it is automatically first in line. Anytime any of my computers using the wireless connection starts downloading or especially uploading big files, it makes my voice cut out for the other party. It's very annoying. The only way I could get around this was to buy an external wireless router. Just some things to consider!

Yes I have tried Vonage. It sucked big time. I have a 10 mps connection speed for the internet so it wasn't that. The phone would get very quiet, it would always be breaking up to many problems to list. Stick with the phone company.

Absolutely a great service. We have ours hooked up to our Comcast cable internet. It always works and the only time that is has been down EVER is when the cable modem wasn't working properly. It has such a great set of features for the techie type of person. It is all managed through their website. It is way cool.

I have had it for 3 years and love it. When they first started (maybe the first month) I had some issues with no dialtone, etc. I would say since then it has worked flawlessly. I would highly recommend them.
