I have a beautiful four month old kitten, his name is Peaches. Peaches had a small upper respitory problem so the Veterinarian advised my some medicine that I give by this little droplet thing. Only problem is feeding my kitten the medicine. The first day I had to hold him down and force the liquid into his mouth, but today he knows better and everytime he sees me with the pink liquid he runs as fast and far away as he can. I tried the help of my girlfriend, who held him down and opened him mouth...But instead the liquid splashed across his face, hardly any getting in his mouth. This is ridiculous, anyone have any quick suggestions?

Yes, it is the nasty pink stuff. Bleck. The flavour stuff sounds great! I'll try that, but for now i'll mix it in with wet food. Guys, trust me...Restraining my cat is a no-no..>_> He's preety much a Hoodini at escaping. He has to eat, and he WILL take the medicine, buah-hua! Thankyou so much guys. <3 Love you all.

Medicating cats is a hellishly difficult task and I have been in your situation many many times. I suggest you have your girlfriend wrap the kitten in a towel to minimize it's struggle, try to comfort it by speaking gently to it and petting it's head to make this less traumatizing, and try to hold the cat's head firmly as you open it's mouth and squeeze in the medicine. If some spills just try again until the cat gets the proper dose. If all else fails, you may need to mix it into the cat's food, or have the vet show you how.

Can you put it in food? If not, you can always try wrapping him on a towel like some people suggest. Or you could kneel on the floor and sit the cat facing away from you between your legs. Hold down his front paws with one hand, and use the other to take hold of his top jaw and lift it up and back. His mouth will have to open, and your girlfriend and can squirt the medication down his throat. Stroking his throat will encourage him to swallow. That's the method we always use for getting our cat to take a pill. If he runs away when he sees the medication, then simply leave it in another room. Grab the kitty, sit him down like I suggested, and get your girlfriend to retrieve the medicine and come in when he's been captured.

I always found it easier to get the syringe ready first. Then, use a ploy, like opening a bag of treats, some sound that brings them running. Pop a can, anything but chase it down. Then use the towel trick and stick the syringe in at the back corner of the cat's mouth and push it between the back teeth. This gets the medicine in the back of the mouth where the cat has to swallow it. You can rub the cat's throat gently to get it to swallow.

NO! maximum human medicine is poisonous to animals. some drugs that are given to dogs in elementary words with techniques from checking with the vet first must be deadly to cats. You could call your vet because there are different medications that could taste better for your cat. In fact you are probably using amoxi, different companies make different flavors of this medicine. My cat had an eye infection and she would actually beg for her medicine. She loved the flavor. There are also pills as well that might work for you. Call your vet it is very important to get your kitty the medicine upper respiratory infections can become very serious for kittens. Good Luck!

Get the medicine ready, find your cat and swaddle him like you would a baby, with a large towel. Have someone help you if possible. Open his mouth slightly put the medicine more to his check than his thought or he'll choke, keep his head tilted up through the procedure and it should work perfect. Grew up with cats and have one and thats how I do it. The towel will keep him from scratching you and the firm baby hold will keep him in one place.

If you can get the eyedropper on the side of his mouth- it is easier to get it in his mouth because he can shut his jaw down.
Try towel rapping him so he can't wiggle as much. Hold him against your chest and have someone else put the meds in.
Or put it in a little bit of wet food- If you can guarantee that he gets it all.
If it is the pink stuff- i am assuming it is amoxicillen/amoxidrops- Depending on his dosing they can give him tablets (but only if he is big enough)
Call your vet and see what they say about substitutes.

We had to do this with our rabbit. We mixed the medicine in with spinach juice and used a baby syringe (like a small turkey baster) to force it into his mouth. He didn't like it, but he took it better than just the medicine. Try mixing your cat's medicine with meat juice of some kind--chicken broth, things like that.
Or, you could mix it with wet food and see if that works.
Good luck!

I have a 4 month old kitten named Frodo and she had to have the same kind of medicine, just have your girl friend hold her in her arms and calm her down by pettin` and cuddling her then sneak up on her and have your Gf slowly open her little mouth while you squirt it in there. Good Luck!!! ^.^ ~^^Jenny^^~
