If you've got a traditional, accoustic piano (either grand or upright), the first key on the keyboard is "A" (sit at the piano- look to your left, the very first key way at the bottom). The musical alphabet runs A-G, then just starts over again until you run out of keys (they last key way at the top is "C"). So, if you start at the first key "A", you can go through and label all of the remaining keys. If you don't have a traditional piano, here's a way to figure out which keys are which:

Look at the black keys- notice they're grouped in groups of 2 and 3. Place your right hand on a group of two black keys. Slide your second finger (index finger) onto the white key to the immediate left of the 2 black keys. This is "C". "D" is in between a group of 2 black keys, and "E" is to the immediate right of a group of 2 black keys. Now place your right hand on a group of 3 black keys. Slide your finger onto the white key to the immediate left of the black key it was on. This is "F". The white key to the right of "F" is "G". After "G" is "A", and after "A" is "B".

As for the black keys, they are "sharps" and "flats" of the white keys.

If you'd like a book with this information in it, I'd suggest you go to your local music store and look for Faber's Piano Adventures. I'd start with the "Primer Level". Get both the Theory and Lesson Book. This is what I use w/ my piano students. Hope this helps!

Piano keys start with middle C, called that because it is located around the middle of the keyboard. Anything starting and going above the middle C is called the treble clef. Anything below the C is called the bass clef. Playing the notes one by one is called a scale.
EXAMPLE: Treble: c,d,e,f,g,a,b,c..
EXAMPLE: Bass: c,b,a,g,f,e,d,c.
Treble clef resembles a letter S backwards with two lines going up and down. The bass clef resembles a C that appears to have a little eye at the top .
You then add sharps, which will be the half step like the black key located just above the C, The opposite is used for flats. Piano teachers will help you by providing you words to memorize.
EXAMPLE all cows eat grass (a,c,e,g) and other examples.

You might try the adobe reader to find a page for music sheet. People learning to play a piano will begin by playing songs in the Key of C. Using all the white keys is the key of C. (no sharps or flats and the easiest of the keys to play.)

Hope I have helped somewhat. Kinda hard to describe without the help of a keyboard.
the scale is based on the c,d,e,f,g,a,b,c. and as mentioned, can go down (bass), or up (treble).

Best wishes.

there are places (music stores) that make little stickers for you to put on the piano keys when you are first learning where they are. The previous person was right though, traditionally the piano starts and middle C and moves in both directions around that base note.

Middle C is always the note below the name on a traditional piano. It goes C D E FG A B C
