It really depends on whether or not the baby has any teeth yet. I would just say, blend everything! When I was a child, my parents rarely bought baby food. They would buy fresh fruits and veggies, add a little milk or water, and blend them in the blender until smooth. I would suggest the same to you. Buy a head of broccoli and steam or boil it for a few minutes until it starts to get soft. Then, place it in a blender and blend away! If it's too dry to blend easily, just add a bit of milk or water and keep trying. Eventually it will blend into a smooth paste that is cheaper and HEALTHIER than any baby food out there! You can do this with all the fruits and veggies. You can even do this with meats! Just get creative and have fun.

Most one-year-olds eat the same thing that older children and adults eat. There are some foods to be careful of because they could present a choking hazard.
The best person to answer this question is your doctor. You should be going in for a one-year well-baby exam soon, and the doctor usually goes over diet.

When my daughter turned 1, she graduated to eating almost anything I eat, with a few exceptions due to choking hazard. (Popcorn for example- never give to children under 4!)
Mornings I still give her multi-grain baby cereal. Afternoons she gets yogurt and fruit. Snacks might be baby cookies, fruit snacks, cheerios and cheese.
For dinner, she gets whatever I have, but it usually goes in the blender first.

You can give the kid anything as long as it's cut up small enough.
A child's digestive track at 1 years old is mature enough to handle any food that child is not allergic to. Any food that you eat, the child can eat, as long as it's cut up small enough for the child not to choke on.

I would go with an educational toy, or something that can stimulate the child mentally, but while enjoying itself.
