Well, it is a dry time of year. Winter brings dry cold weather at times and overheated houses and offices, etc. Try a bit of warmed olive oil on your scalp, not too hot! and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Shampoo out and condition as usual. I think you will see a difference.

If you just mean dry scalp & not dandruff, I think I may know what the problem is. When I had a fro a few years back I had to get reacquainted with moisturizing my scalp all over again.

Remember when your Mom would sit you between her knees, use a comb & part your hair into what seemed like a million sections & oil your scalp? Well, between Just for Me & Dark & lovely no lye I forgot about that. It takes allot more work to get to your scalp when your hair is full & thick then when it's thin & straight. Most of the time I was just rubbing oil on my hair & not reaching my scalp at all, then I would wonder why the h*ll is my scalp so tight (LoL)?

I started to moisturize my scalp right after I washed my hair (when it was still wet) to seal in the moisture, & I took my time (25 minutes sometimes) to make sure I did a through job. A good light weight product is key, I like: http://www.janecartersolution.com/home.html
I still use it now, even though I'm fryin' & dyin' again. The nourish & shine is heavy enough to seal moisture into your scalp without giving you an oil slick & all the products are all natural. I use the nourishing hair cream in the summer when it's hot. You just need to moisturize your whole scalp after you wash & condition (which should be at least once a week, natural hair needs to be washed MORE not less than relaxed hair), your edges might need some everyday - but these products won't cause any build up.
Enjoy your new fro girl!

You are pulling the natural oils out of your hair, and the natural oils your hair makes for itself is the best kind!

For 3 days, do not use shampoo or conditioner, but do this. Have a comb at the bathroom sink and every time you do your business, brush your hair with that comb, which would keep tangles from building up and it will spread the natural oils over every strand. To smooth the hair down, put some water on the comb and brush it through. Even if you are not doing anything that day, do it! It will save your hair!

Also, every few hours, give your scalp a massage. Using your fingers, not nails, to massage your scalp. This will promote oils to be produced, relax your scalp, and improve the look of your hair!

It could be a systemic issue due to diet, or a matter of poor circulation.

To address the first, add biotin to your diet in the form of a supplement. Also, make sure you ahve enough fat in your diet; the current very destructive low fat craze is very very bad for hair. You need good fat, like from olive oil or avocados.

For the second, twice a day massage your scalp gently with your fingertips (tips of fingers, not nails) for 10 to 15 minutes.

With this treatment, you should experience a significant change within about 10 days.

Good choice to give up perming your hair. I have just decided the same thing.
It may be winter being a dry time for your skin, use head and shoulders or any dandruff shampoo.

The water in your shower may be to hot. Also if using a hair drier try turning the temp down if your able. Air drying can be drying to the scalp, so dry as well as possible with your towel.

I would try another shampoo and conditioner sometimes your body cant take the same thing every day so you need a change. But if that doesn't help go to a salon and ask about it.
