If he likes wine, a really wonderful bottle is always welcome, or a magnum of good Spanish cava.
Or a great bottle of whisky or brandy.

Get something from the Oxfam Unwrapped catalogue. The gifts range from £5 upto around £500! One of my favourites is getting 100 kids dinners for £6 although you can also get goats, cows etc. Make a difference and find out more at www.oxfamunwrapped.com

consumables. gourmet coffee or wine or whatever his passion is, get him something he consumes, since no one ever has enough of that.

every year I get my dad movie passes or a pass to the shooting range, get my grandpa coffee, things they will use up so i can get them again next year. then i don't have to think of something every stinking year. that is too much work.

also cologne, if you know what he wears, but that may be outside your budget.

I once got my brother the present 'for the man who has everything'
... a belly-button cleaner! Not sure how well it was received, as I wasn't there when he opened it.
