I have been scooping my litter boxes about 3 times a day (once in the morning, once after getting home from work, once before bed). I have 2 cats, 2 litterboxes (I know I should have a 3rd but in a 1 bdrm apartment, I have nowhere else to put another one). I use clumping pine litter. Is this cleaning the boxes enough, or am I being too obsessive about it?

I have two kittens and one litterbox (when I had two they only used the one), and I clean it about three times a day, so I'd say you are doing fine! When we first got them, I'd litter-ly follow them to the box and clean it each time they used it.. that was being obsessive!

You definately don't have to clean it more, if its a bother, then you could do with twice a day, but the more often it gets cleaned the happier the cats will be :-)

Sounds like you are doing a great job and realise the importance of keeping them clean when you have a small space.

I am a good "scooper" as I am around the house most of the day. I need improvement in the changing of the litter totally and washing out the boxes with warm, soapy water.

Be aware that a plastic litterbox has only about a two-year life span and should be replaced. Bacteria causes the box to have odors that seep into the boxes. The odor won't be detectable to you and it will to the cats. So since your cats are very good about using their boxes and you with keeping them scooped and clean get new boxes occasionally and you will never have problems.

I only have one cat, but I too scoop out the litter box 3 times a day. If I am home, like on the weekend, I more than likely do it more. Whenever I happen to walk by it, and notice it has been used, I scoop it.
In my opinion, I don't think you are being obsessive. We flush the toilet every time we use it, right? Well, it's the same with the cat box.
Happy Holidays!

If you're home and you hear the tell tale scratching of a cat in the box, and your cats eat commercially canned food, you know that soon after the scratching ends you will be blasted with horrendous odors that quickly stink out the house. So as a good practice, me and my parents literally wait for the cat to finish and scoop the poop as soon as the cat gets out of the box. Cats like their boxes to be clean so this is a good habit to get into and it will keep your house smelling a lot fresher! If the cat just pees it's ok to leave it be, but if the box gets all peed up, of course clean it. It's also good to rinse the box after each cleaning with soap and warm water since cat urine soaks into the plastic and can give it a bad smell over time. Hope this info helps! I think you're doing a great job, you can never be too clean when it comes to catbox maintanence lol Good luck with your kitties!

I have one cat and one litter box that I clean once to twice on a regular day, but if someone's coming over I clean it again. Normally, I'd say that your being a tad OCD, but in a one bedroom apartment, I know that any smell is easily carried all over the apartment! If your kitties don't mind though, I'd start using CareFresh pet bedding as litter. It absorbs odor and urine so much better than normal litter, even though it's supposed to be used as bedding for small animals!

Personally I never had much sucess with scooping. The smell of urine still persists and the cats still think the tray is dirty so they go elsewhere. I found it more affective to by a good quality litter and change it whenever the cat pooped in it. I have 3 cats but only one of the really bothered with the litter tray, the others prefer to go outside.

I have two cats, and I scoop at least twice a day, usually 3 times. You can never be too clean. I use Fresh Step litter, I've tried others, this kind works best in my opinion.

tried that pine stuff and my house always smelled like cat pee :). I switched back and started using tidy cat. Actualy the best investment I ever got was the LitterMaid. It scoops and cleans the litter for you and you just need to clean out the litter receptacle a couple times a week (once if you have one cat but usually twice with 2 cats)... its like $100-150 but well worth it.

I have 2 cats but just one big litter box and I scoop it twice a day. Why would you want a third litter box, there is no need.

I even have 3 person cats, a million clutter container (the clarification why i went from 3 distinctive packing containers to a million is becuase they consistently in basic terms use one no be counted how lots it fills) and that i scoop 2 to 3 circumstances an afternoon.
