I personally do NOT believe in a majikal name.
My detractors often call me "BOZO" - simply because they believe all males are Bozos.

I do have one, I don't think it's necessary, as such, but I was brought up (dragged up if you prefer) as a strict Protestant and felt I needed one to separate my 'Craft self' from the christian name I was given at birth. It is something I keep private, it is between me and the Lord and Lady. It came to me through hours of meditation and reflection on what my beliefs are, my personality, and what is dear to me: the elements and the forest where I live.
I am a Solitary, so I don't know whether coven Witches have a different viewpoint.

Of course! Endora isn't my real name but I use it with most of my firends--I can't say whether or not it's absolutely necessary, but it's fun!--it all got started when I dressed up as Endora for halloween and went to a wiccan party where I didn't know many people yet--I kept going to circle meetings after that and since nobody had known my name at the halloween celebration, they all just called me endora--it was a couple of months before they started asking me,"by the way what is your real name?" and I liked endora, so we just went with it

I have several Magical names, my public magical name is the one everyone sees when ever I answer a question. My other magical names are group specific, some were given to me, others came through contemplation.
The magical name for me is a way of shifting my focus from the mundane to that of the craft. It given me a defined boundary to cross between that of work-a-day man to priest.
***********************************************************
In traditional Wicca the magical name was for many years a requirement. If you ever got caught by the "Church Fathers" you couldn't give a name you did not know. Some Covens carry on this practice due to the slow ground swell of religious intolerance.
It pays to know the history of your craft before you call people frauds.

I am pagan, not wiccan, and I do not have one.
I do not think it is necessary, but more of a way of indicating an intended change in yourself when you enter the service of a diety. I may someday have one, but for the moment, I neither have nor feel I need one.

I don't have a name that I consider to be my "magical" or "craft" name. But then, I haven't gone in search of mine, either. I'm a solitary, so I don't know whether it's "necessary" for me to have one.
