i just got rubberbands and i'm wondering if you have to throw the rubberbands away, or if you can re-use them.

You need to throw them away and use new ones everyday. They will get stretched out after awhile and they won't be as effective. I had to keep my braces on 6 months longer (when I was 18) than I was supposed to (meaning I had to have my senior pictures and go to prom with them on) because I didn't wear my rubber bands like I was told to.

You can't reuse them. The reason the orthodontist has you change them so often and gives you so many is they lose elasticity. After a couple of hours of wear, they don't generate the required force anymore. So keep them fresh by changing them often. On the same note, don't double or triple them up thinking that more force will get the job done quicker. It just doesn't work that way.

Rubber bands, additionally spoke of as elastics, are used to pass tooth in a fashion that braces on my own can't do. they're often used at school II situations, pulling the canines back. The elastic used to hold the twine contained in the brackets is spoke of as a ligature or "O" ring.

Don't re-use them. One, that's really nasty. And two, you lose a lot of the elastic properties needed to properly realign your jaw. So basically, naw.

Wouldn't be prudent. Especially if you just got back from Taco Bell.

I wear them now with my braces. You can not reuse them, its unsanitary. You have to take them out before you eat and brush everyday. They are too cheap and you can get them from you orthodontist to reuse them.
