Yes, it can.

You need to gear your wind turbine to get the RPM's of the alternator up to about 1200.

You are also going to need a large enough turbine to supply the amount of power in HP that is the equivalent (plus some for efficiencies) to the load you intend to drive.

There is all sorts of fun waiting in an alternator....
