I know about the sugar, too, but what else is there, and in what amounts?

Okay, so far, I got the answers about the caramel and/or splenda or aspertame. One of you tossed in "additives". Could you explain that a little? Another of you wrote "read the can". Not a good answer, but about what I expected. I don't drink the crap, so I can't "read the can".

So allow me a little leeway here. Other than all the above mentioned ingredients, do any of you know how much of whatever is added, is in percentage points? I'm not looking for the secret formula, but attempting to find out why colas, any of them, are so addictive.

TIA

the darker colored ones add caramel color. The non-diet have sugar and corn syrup- the diet ones add splenda or aspartame.
Almost all add caffeine for flavor. For a bit of a bite, they add phosphoric acid- but the citrusy ones add citric acid.
Then they add different preservatives....
and CO2 makes it bubbly!

Sounds like your looking for Their recipe to make your own.
You can guess-tamate the relative amounts by looking on the can or bottle and reading the ingredients listed there. The first ingredient is the one there in the greatest quantity (h2o in the case of cola) then comes the corn syrup (in the non- diet ones) and then all the other stuff like co2 for fizz and the colorings and the flavorings and preservatives.
Yuck. Reading labels is a real good way to lose weight. After reading them who wants to eat or drink that stuff!!
By the way, the soft drink company's guard their recipes heavily. It would be considered cooperate espionage to try and get one.

Read your expanded explination. My personal opinion at to why they are adictive is the sugar and the caffiene in some of them. I know about the caffinene as I was totally addicted to Mountain Dew in the Army. At that time it was the cola with the highest caffiene level. If you think there may be anything else in them than that you may have to spring for an indipendent labs anaylisis of the darn things.
I also suspect that the aritificial sweeteners are at least a little addictive in the diet versions.
Sorry about any misspelling in the last part of this, but after so much my spell checker gives up on me.

Corn syrup is one of the basic ingredients. Carmel of various types are used for coloring. Small amount of flavorings are supposed to make the drinks have an unique appeal

carbonation. caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors (yeah right), and caffeine
pop is addictive because people crave the caffiene. other then that pop, is about 99% carbonated sugar water.
