I live in Rome and I can speak English and French. Most part of Italian people can speak English. But when I go abroad nobody can speak Italian! When I am in Italy, tourists want that I speak their language (not only English or French, but even Dutch, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish...!). If they don't speak my language when I am abroad why should I speak their language when they are in Italy?

If you think about it Italy is one of about three countries that speak Italian as a majority language. But I agree I don't think that you have to be able to speak all of those Languages. My sister speaks Italian so if that makes you feel better when we go to Italy you don't have to translate for my family! :)

Darling, there is a difference between what you want and what you get.
Tourists may want to speak English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch and more when visiting Italy. Do they get it??? nope! not even English speakers - or then, with such an accent that one must be Italian speakers to get it.

So the same for you - you want to speak Italian outside of Italy, and you don't get it... excellent! that gives you some practice for your English!!!

Ciao bella, e studia studia da brava.

Capisco. Posso parlare l'italiano, ma quando ragazze italiane sono da qui in Inghilterra, penso che preferiscono parlare Inglese e fare la pratica della lingua.

Because, you probably don't know that, but...actually....Italian is not an International language!!! English is!!!!;)...L'Italiano si parla soltanto in Italia, quindi, non vedo perche' lo si dovrebbe conoscere anche all'estero;)...

Got a better question for you;).....How come that only A VERY FEW (too few actually) Italians can speak English????;)...Too lazy to study, or what?;)
