Our living room TV turns on by itself sometimes. It started doing it a few months back and at the same time every night (around 2am). We thought maybe there was a way to set it up to turn on at a certain time and that maybe somone hit something on the remote accidentally. We have no manual for it. It is about 10 years old and is a GE.

My husband and I went through every menu trying to see if we could set it up to turn on at a certain time. You can't, there's only a sleep timer for turning it OFF.

It stopped doing it for a few months but then yesterday and today it turned on around 8am. We thought maybe a cat layed on the remote, but the remote was put away on a shelf.

My husband seems to think a power surge could cause this. But with only ONE tv? We have 4 tv's in our house. Nothing else is affected...

Ok, I was really looking for some logical explanations.

I'm not getting a new one. My son is really the only one who ever watches that particular tv. As I stated, we have 3 others and I hardly ever even watch tv so it's staying.

My wonderful husband, by the way, has a 52" that is in our family room. I'm just curious.

Off the bat...you may have someone near you with a timer set to turn on out door lights or something in the house, and it's on the same wave as your TV. Or, as I heard on the news...the air defence is using some new equipment that has caused garage doors, and other remote operated equipment to function "out of norm"...it's within 10-15 miles of the bases. All in all....your TV is old, and your old man wants a new one...xmas is coming up :)

my friend has the same problem and sadly its gonna cost you more that its probably worth. Best thing is to get yourself a new tv 32inch lcd phillips from £299 at richersounds. Dont get another bush tv as no offense but they are rubbish and of poor build quality. Rather spend a bit more and last much longer in the years to come. Good luck

It`s better if you don`t use the remote to turn it off. Manually turn it off, or turn off the power switch. Send TV for repair if able.

Abnormalities such as this are often attributed to evil spirits, or poltergeists. I suggest hiring someone to deal with it (Or them), or moving to a different home.
