okay thanks for the answers...but let me add something...i have a little sister and she wants a puppy too just like me and my mom will allow me to have one as long as i remain on the honor roll. its just my dad he won't let me have it. yeah i'm 14, on the honor roll, live in a house that we own, and not rent so its basically our house and my dad always borrows money from me. you guys told me to do reserch...well i've been doing research for 1 and a half years now. and i've been asking my dad if i can get one for 2 years already. what now?

A puppy is a lot of work to take care of. I would see if he would allow you to get a dog (3 years old or older). They don't require a lot of work, and they won't be crying so much. I don't think they cry at all at that age. Also, it depends on where you live. Some landlords won't allow pets in their places. Is your dad a renter or an owner?

I think you really have to think long and hard about this. Dogs canlive 10-20 years. What do you plan on doing when you graduate? If you're going to university or college, you'll be hard pressed to find a place where you'll be able to take the dog, meaning you'll have to leave it with your dad, and if he didnt want the dog, than it's unfair to him.

Just try to see your dad's point of view in this too. I know what it feels like to really want a pet, but you have to think in the long run and considered what is best for your WHOLE family and the dog too.

When I was 13, i REALLY wanted a ferret, but my dad didnt allow it. Now I can see where he was coming from and now that i have my own apartment, i have my ferrets. I had to wait a LONG time, but it is worth the wait :)

You may be responsible for the dog - but your father will incur the financial responsibility of the dog - and that can get expensive at times. Wait till your a little older and can get a job - then maybe your dad will be okay with this - if you are willing to take both responsibilities on (care and financial).

Christmas is coming -

Play on his heart strings. I suggest you also look on the web page Dogbreed info.
Find the breed of dog you are most interested in then go to the library and get a book on the breed. Study it to death then talk to your dad. He will be amazed at how much you know and may consider you to be responsible for it. Also - your dad may not want a dog that needs much exercise so look at breeds that don't require too much. All the best.

I just had the same problem but i got a dog. What you have to do is show him that you are responsible and if you are showing him. then just have him look at the dog/puppy you want. I just kept putting pictures on my dad's desk and kept writing next to the picture. "I Think i can handle a dog. You will see!" ANd just keep putting pictures on his desk and hopefully he will give in like my dad. Somethimes its hard, but i had my mom try and con him into buying a dog.

Good Luck, Hopefully i helped.

I know puppys can be a little wild, but just wait a couple months and think about it then.
