Of course it's ok. Indian women wear western styles, so you can wear a saree. I'm of Indian heritage and I'm not offended when a white woman wear's a saree. I just want to correct the way she drapes it for her :)

I know English women "not of Indian heritage" who do. It can either be very flattering or conceal a size problem. Cannot see why American women should have a problem.
