i am not asking for the most common type of help but i am asking for help for my three children; twin boys that are 8 and a 4 year old girl. i have been able to get most of their christmas but coming from a one income family(my husband works at mcdonalds and i recently got laid off) i am not able to purchase the thing that they really want which is bikes. i have shopped around and cant find any that is under $50 we just don't have enough money. they have asked santa for bikes which makes it worse. does anyone have any ideas about what i can do?

i would love to get an xbox but that is the problem i only have about $60 to left to spend. most of the other gifts i purchased came from the dollar store and i did sign up for christmas basket with salvation army but they said they usually do not get bikes in to give.

I tried my local police station and they said that they only auction off bikes one time a year usually in the summer. As for our church i contacted them and they are only doing an angel tree that is for clothes. So i signed up for that also. I also went to united way and they referred me to the fire department who took my app. but because we are getting a christmas basket from the salvation army they said that they would not help. i am at a loss. i don't know what else to do. i give up.

Check with your local police. They pick bikes all the time and some are never claimed. Our police donate them to poor kids through a community center. You could check there also. Local bike shops may also be able to help.

Definetly you need to go to http://www.freecycle.org and find your town and sign up through yahoo's groups. All day long people post items they no longer want (to keep out of the landfills) and some of these items are awesome! (We for one gave away a mint condition fuseball table as it was taking up room in the family room and nobody ever used it!) We have picked up a great queen size bedframe and head and footboard for our son's bedroom and it is like brand new cuz the family upgraded to a king size bed. Trust me...there are bicycles on there all the time. (At least in New Hampshire)....check it out and good luck :)

Put a few notices out to see if anyone is selling second hand. Kids outgrow bikes and you could be in luck. A good clean and check over and the kids will not notice the difference if they are so desperate for cycles.

You know what? You may want to contact your local police department. Find out if they have any bicycles up for sale. A lot of times they find bicycles and the owner never claims them. Also, explain your financial situation with them, they may be able to help you out.
