Unfortunately no, else Microsoft Corp's Bill Gates wouldn't be the world's richest man.

Microsft XP is an OS - which means operating system. It has a lot of tool integreated that come with this package, but generally are basic tools like: Notepad and Wordpad for text editing or like MSPaint for drawing.
MS Word is a powerfull text editor which is part of the Microsoft Office, another product from Microsoft Corporation. This package is not included in any operating system by default and it can be bought separately from microsoft.com page.
So the short answer is that Word was not and will never be included in the OS because you have to buy it separately.

It is only included in the XP Professional edition. I'm not sure about the microsoft update part. If you are in college, they offer free microsoft office and if you would like XP Professional, you only have to pay $5 for it. However, I think only some colleges have that great of a deal.
Edit:
Whoo! Thumbs down for trying to help.

XP does not have the Office Programs included.
Extremely naughty people use torrent to download software, but of course, that is not something you should do.
if you want some shareware however I can tell you that http://isohunt.com/ is an interesting resource. you might be able to find some "shareware version" of word by doing a search for the "real thing" - http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=microsoft+word for example.
If you do not have a torrent client, then google for " utorrent "
I am sure you will find something suitable.
Awww: homicidal, no fair, have given you a thumbs up to balance things out :)

The Microsoft Office package does not come along with Windows. You need to purchase its separately. Of course, you can do as you have stated, provided that the copy is legitimate.
