anyone who provides a regular service for you should be remembered at christmas time. the gift does not necessarily need to be money. THE BOOK OF MANNERS, by Hershell Gi Gordo, stipulates that homemade goodies are the best present to gift to a service person. then purchased gifts. money is last in his list.
he states:
daily service ----no more than $50
not daily service---no more than $25

Hee's a run down on how much i give to our various service providers. it's not the gospel, but it works for me.

mailman---$50
ups/fedex---$25
trash men----$20 each (there are 3 men on the route)
barber---$20
gardener---$30
snow plower---$20

Hope this helps!

I've never heard of tipping a milkman in the first place. But then again we don't have milk delivered anymore. ( with few exceptions). That died in the seventies. I was only a small child then. The glass bottles left at our doorstep, it tasted so much better than store bought. Anyway, just give him a christmas card. Peace.

In England I would give a £5 note in an envelope. In the States I would try a $10 bill.
