Check your CD for scratches, this will slow down the process.
Dump Media Player. For listening to music/watching movies use VideoLan (VLC) it's freeware and uses far less resources with better results.
For ripping cds, use Exact Audio Copy. It's free and far superior. Slightly complicated but easy to figure out and will give great copies of even scratched cds. It says beta but I haven't had a problem yet after years of ripping and it's always been beta.

I don't think you did everything you need to get stuff off your computer to get it to run faster like cookies and such.Or you can delete it and put another one on and see what happens.
If this don't help go to a computer place and have it checked out.
