Intelligent dogs are HIGH MAINTANANCE.. if you dont attend to their mental needs they will become bored and destructive.. intelligent dogs require CONSTANT mental stimulation

intelligent breeds include: Border Collie, Dalmation, Jack Russell Terriers...

less intelligent dogs are the ones that make the best house pets... they are the ones you can leave alone and not have to worry about so much...

less intelligent dogs are: Shih Tzu, Pug, Bichon Frise

if you dont have ALOT of time.. then do not get an intelligent dog...

I do not think there are any dumb dogs in this world, as all dogs can be trained and intelligent workers.
Stubborn dogs which may ignore you if not trained properly: Akitas, Huskies, Malamutes, Dalmations, and there are others, sorry!
Great Pyrenes are known to be pretty lazy unless they are livestock guards which is what they were bred to do.
Afghan Hounds are known to be quite lazy and quiet unless they are hunting, therefore, doing their bred for job.
If you want a listing of the most intelligent dogs who will work for you and learn quickly, I can help ya there:
Australian Shepherd, although they never stop going, so give em an outlet
Golden Retriever, hard workers with some of the best brains out there
Labrador Retriever, need a job to do though, otherwise they will get fat and lazy
Border Collie, they LOVE to work and will never stop for you, so give em an outlet
Russell Terriers, jack or parson, smartest little devils of the terrier group
Springer Spaniels, smart and loving, great family or single dog

Why are you blaming your dogs on your lack of ability to coach him? that's like somebody with a ratty brat newborn blaming the youngster for having nasty tantrums somewhat of taking accountability to be a discern. you could make specific that your dogs isn't strengthened for habit which you do not choose. in the experience that your dogs jumps on human beings, what do you prefer him to do somewhat? maximum human beings will coach the dogs take a seat, so as that the dogs gets no interest until he's sitting. as quickly as he sits quietly, then provide him all the attentiton he needs. interest basically maintains on the same time as he has "4 on the floor", and it is going away as quickly as he jumps. Dont' push at him, yell at him, or communicate with him until he sits or a minimum of has "4 on the floor". If he can not cope with it on his very own, help him by using giving him a 2-minute holiday to get himself below administration, or by using having him placed on a collar and leash and then stepping on one end of the leash (do not yank the leash in any respect in this technique or you will greater in all likelihood rev him back up -- if there is any yanking make specific that's him yanking himself.) Please seem into obedience instructions or studying greater approximately guidance in the previous blaming your dogs for the matters which you're seeing.

What do you mean by dumb? Do you mean dopey? Do you mean harder to train?

Some dogs are kind of dopey, but pretty trainable, like Goldens and Labs.

Some dogs are very smart, but not as trainable, like Afghan Hounds or Bassets. They tend to be more independent and think for themselves.

Which one is really smarter, the dog that blindly follows every command, or the one that has its own ideas and agendas?

Bluebell - Sorry, just my opinion. I have been teaching obedience for 25 years, have fostered a few Goldens, and have friends with them as well. Great obedience dogs, highly trainable. But my opinion is the same, to *me*, they are dopey.

i have never seen a stupid dog. what ever you get. spend time with it and teach it tricks. Patience will win over. You cant expect a dog or puppy to know what you want it to do unless you teach it. And always praise it when it does the command or trick.

I can only imagine you mean lazy dog not dumb.
There are plenty of them.

The smartest dogs though would be working class breed.

German Shepherds are known far and wide for there diverse abilities. So are Dobermans.
