To open your mouth to say something to your child who is miss behaving and have your mom or dad's voice and words come out?
My son was playing with his oatmeal this morning when I opened my mouth to tell him to stop I swear I sounded just like my mom.

LOL Great question! Not only do I sound like my Mom (and on occasion, my Dad), but when I've called her to relate the latest incident perpetrated by her Grandson (who is 18 mo.), she just laughs and laughs at me and then regales me with a tale of how I did something similar and then reminds me that payback is a b****h!!! She insists it's Karma and it's part of the wonderment of being a parent. Sheesh! I just wish she didn't laugh so hard....

YES!!!! Then I laugh and I say "wow, now I know why my mom said that". LOL.. It is funny. Hubby and I tease each other some times about being our parents. There are times where my children will ask why I tell them to do something. Then I say because I am the mom. And I go.... "man I used to HATE when my mom said that". Oh well. LOL

Get used to it you will hear yourself sound more and more like your own folks because even thought they may have done things that you say that you would never do you will find yourself doing some of the same things then seeing why your folks did some things the way they did and you will learn to appreciate your own folks more. Have fun.

Oh, man, I do this all the time. Recently, my sassy 12 year old rolled his eyes at me. I looked at him and said, "If you roll your eyes at me again, I'll roll your head across the floor." My husband was like, "Where did THAT come from?" Well, it came from my mom. I was so mortified to be repeating my mother's words that I couldn't even be mad at my son anymore.

People always say we will all turn into our parents... frightening, isn't it?

I haven't caught myself sounding like my mom so much....but my hubby seems exactly like MY dad. My dad had me memorize the powers of 2 by kindergarten and we took apart computers together when I was barely 5. Now my hubby reads our daughter bedtime stories from books written by Stephen Hawking and explains programming to her when she sits at his computer with him. It just goes to show that you probably do marry someone just like your father.

Yes, I feel as if my parents possessed me with their "parenting words"! It's scary. I swore that I'd never end up saying those things and I do.
