Mean in what way? Where you verbally abusive to classmates and or school staff? Where you a prankster in elementary school? Where you a bully in school? Not having a better understanding of the things that you consider to have been mean makes it a little difficult to understand the past behavior, at the same time, I do have some answers for you. It is a known fact that even as young as two years of age, our personalities begin to define us. As we grow up there many things that influence our personalities for the positive and or the negative. I like to call this our 'mental growth cycle' in life. We are definitely not the same person we used to be maybe 5 years, 10 years, and or even 20 years ago. Why? Because life changes us for the better and or for the worse to determine who we are in the now. Self discovery is waking up inside ourselves and discovering who am I? Where am I heading in life? Aside from statistics and ratios when trying to understand behavior and where it can lead..blah blah blah. It all depends on the individual and what group you will end up in. Will you discover that your behavior was childish and was no more than a growing stage and will change the behavior? Or will you continue on a path that will always lead to pain to others and yourself? You have many things going for you to change negative behavior from local churches, friends and family, local positive groups and organizations, counselors, etc.. With all of the many outlets to aide in self discovery it all boils down on you taking the first step. So, yes, anyone can change a negative behavior and there is hope to change it all depends on you.

The fact that you know you were mean and you are asking if you will do the same when you are older says a lot. You know you had an unwanted behavior and you can begin to change it. When you feel yourself beginning to be mean ask yourself why and see if you can change your behavior.

I would say not necessarily. I think that a lot of a person's experience when younger really can have impact on how they are as adults.

For instance....a quiet kid who is riduculed and bullied as a child may grow up to be really defensive, outspoken, etc. because he/she has learned that is a way to protect him/herself from other people.

Depending on your experiences with being "mean", as you say, may impact you, as well. You may learn to cool your jets but if you've been permitted to carry on with your behavior, it may carry over into adulthood.

Do you feel regret about past actions? If you do, then chances are you'll change your behavior. If not, or if you find "excuses" for your behavior, then no, you'll keep on being mean and blaming others for your behavior.

Not if you make a conscious effort to change!
Mean people are seldom happy--be nice and you'll enjoy life more.
