My neutered male Pomeranian keeps trying to mount my female "intact" Pom who is in her first heat. I don't understand why he would be trying to breed with her since he is fixed. My vet verified that he has been neutered although when I bought him, my breeder said he was intact. He definitely does not have any visible testicles and like I said, my vet told me he was neutered. I actually took him to the vet to get him neutered because I thought he was intact. That is when my vet informed me that he had previously been neutered.

There are several possible reasons. As a few people have mentioned, depending on how long he was intact, neutering does not take away all of their urges. If he's only mounting her while she's in season, it may be that he still has those urges. Occasionally animals are born with extra testes, or excess tissue that secretes male hormones, both of which would cause him to still want to breed, and still think he can breed. If that is the case, a blood test could confirm a higher testosterone level in his blood. In most cases that just means that you have to maintain an extra vigilant watch on him, unless you want to have an exploratory to find the other teste or tissue. The hormones will make him act more "stud like" than a neutered dog, so he may be more aggressive when a female is around. Lastly, dogs mount/hump as a dominance move. If he's only mounting her while she's in heat, it is most likely hormone related. If not, it may be him establishing his dominance.

I answered this for any one already. Too unhealthy you didn't use the hunt window above to find the answers. When a male is neutered the vessels are taken out so and i suppose additionally the organs, so no sperm will also be produced and none can get to the outside anyway. Consequently, there's no means he can impregnate her if he's been neutered. Nonetheless, humping is a dominance motion, and so if she's pestering him, he'll hump her. Hold them apart whilst she's in warmness, above all if his neutering was once latest as it takes a at the same time for his hormones to drop after he is neutered.

Neutering takes away most if not all of a male's drive, but some can remain in small or large dogs. I suggest you get your female Pom spayed asap. That makes no sense to have a neutered male but not a spayed female.
Furthermore, your male might just have some behavioral issues that he is taking out in a sexual act on the female. You may want to hire a professional dog behavioralist to do an evaluation. Not just any dog trainer can target train this behavior out of him.

Those are my two cents.

Just because he is neutered does not mean that he can not do the deed.
THey still can and many will still try to mount a female especially when she is in heat. They may even end up tied up. But you will not have puppys if he has been neutered.

My dog was neutered as a baby(snipped at 8 weeks!) but he still does the humpity dance with different dogs. As long as you're sure he's neutered, and you're not going to have an "oops" litter, you're fine. Your female dog will probably tell him to leave her alone.

There are 3 possibilities:
a. he has hidden testicles inside the body
b. he only mounts her to show dominance, it is not sexual, but between play and hierarchy establishing thing (very common habit).
c. evenneutered males can have sex, they just don't reproduced, usually the urge stops too, but not always, especially if they've done it before getting fixed and they know it feels good.
So don't worry, if you are sure he is sterile let them have fun.

Why would a man try to have sex after he's had a vasectomy, or why would a woman still want sex after a hysterectomy. The answer ... because sex is natural. and it's instinctual. Cats still claw at things after declawing. it's nature.
