Read this short story: Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut

First I have to say to Leina, that is a GREAT story. I read it last year!!!

But to answer the question. I sure don't want the government raising my kid. And it's not fair, but life isn't fair. It's what we do with the hand that we are dealt that makes the difference, not what we are given. Just look at Paris Hilton. She was born with EVERYTHING and is trash. I know lots of people that have nothing and have tons more class than people who have it all.

I think people who have little or NO income, especially the ones that are more concerned about where their next cigarette is coming from than whether or not their children are properly fed and clothed... should be STERILIZED in order to prevent them from having any more children that they are just going to abuse and neglect.

And yes, I think any children they have already should be taken from them so that they can be adopted by a family who actually WANTS them. The government doesn't have to raise them.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just cannot stand to see things like this going on.

it is not our government's job to raise our children. It is ours. That's where all this bull comes in. Like children are getting more and more obese so parents expect the schools to change their food, restaurants to change their menus and so on. Meanwhile these kids will go home and sit in front of a tv eatting doritos and drinking soda. Don't leave it up to the government to raise our kids. It all begins at home.

Yeah it does suck that some kids have less than others, but that's capitalism for you. Still, I don't agree w/ the gov't raising children then we would be a communist country.

Although the poor parenting could be attributed to our government's lack of care for our nation's lower class. We don't educate ppl in lower economic classes, but expect them to know everything, and insult them when they don't. Better schools, that's what we really need.

Yes its really unfair. I think the government should trim a few inches off the tall ones too since it can be proven that on average you make 500 more a year for each inch of height you have.

We should have a government agency with sharp machetes ready to slice off a few inches from tall babies

Doesn't it seem unfair that everyone doesn't earn the same amount of money for the same amount of work? You do understand that the only money the government has comes from our pockets anyway?

if the govt raised all kids, there are a heck of a lot more people who wouldnt bother to work. why should they ? someone else will do it for them.

parents should raise kids, NOT government, and it's parents' jobs to give children what they need, YES, some people are richer than others but maybe other people should try working instead of blaming the government for all their failures

no it's not unfair at all. it's called life and life is notorious for being unfair. if i wanted the government to control my life i'd move to another country.
