White - New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, S American wines are good too. I steer clear of anything Australian or Chardonnay's. You can't really go wrong with the classics such as Pinot Grigio, Chablis, Sancerre, Pouilly Fume/Fuse.
Red, most Italian reds are good, Spanish Rioja too.

Too hard to answer this question. There are sooo many great wines and some are so different from each other you can't compare them. Modestly priced Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier is an amazing white with just enough oak to make it special for 20-30 bucks. For about the same price Henri Bourgeois Sancerre is equally thrilling but worlds apart. As well red wines range from the very light and fruity Gamay Noir to big bold Zins.
Picking my favourite wine, among the ones I enjoy, is kind of like picking my favourite child. I could give a list of wines I hate and the reasons, but that's would be unfair to the proponents of those wines. After all, taste is an individual affair.
Health to you and yours.

In my budget, my favorite wine is the 2003 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot from Washington State, for about $10. It's smooth, flavors of cherry, a little oak, and a nice, long finish. It rated a 91 in Wine Spectator.
However, my favorite wine varietal is a full-bodied, chewy, over the top flavorful zinfandel. A. Rafanelli in Dry Creek Valley in Northern California was the best I ever tasted.

It depends on the occasion, what Im eating (or not) and how much I have to spend.
To splash out it has to be a good Chateau Neuf Du Pape, rich, spicy and warm.
For every day drinking, any good Aussie Shiraz or Spanish rjocia.
For mixing with soda to make a long drink in the summer, then a good buttery chardonnay.
Other than that, if Im after a bargain I head to the supermarket and see whats in offer. Tescos is always selling a good £8 bottle of wine for half price and its a great chance to try something different

I love Italian reds made from the sangiovese grape like Chianti, but the best wines by far are the BRUNELLOS that is short for brunello di montalcinos, a Tuscan wine south of the Chianti district. they are the real thing:
"full of intense aromas of crushed blackberry and vanilla follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long, refined finish" that last bit was from -wine spectator on a bottle of La Rasina 2001 which I purchased this morning. but I have many Brunellos. best of the reds although Barolos and Barbarescos are nice too. Try to stick to the 2001 and 1999 vintages if you can. 2000 for Barolo and Barbaresco.
