Yeah it's pretty rude to do that.

Yes! I completely understand where you are coming from! It is so rude to do that to a complete stranger. People that do that obviously have no manners or at least when it comes to phone etiquette.
Maybe you should keep some real crunchy food at your desk so when you get an obnoxious chewer., you can start chomping along with them maybe they will get the hint :)
Emilo- I assume since Ava said " I am always completely disgusted by the amount of people who call in and EAT while talking on the phone." that she is not calling people, she is answering inbound calls. (Am I right Ava?) If a person can't hold off from eating for like less than five minutes they got problems.

Eating while talking on the phone is very rude. Why can't people either eat and then call or call and then eat after? It doesn't drive me mental, but I get very irritated.

When I was in first grade we had phone etiquette classes in school. We were told that eating on the phone was very rude and should never do it. It is like chewing in some one's ear.

Very rude. Tell them to finish eating before calling and hang up.

I do eat while on the phone, but only with my close family and a few close friends that don't mind. They do it themselves.
But yes, I think it's a lack of manners. If I don't know the person, I don't do it.

Yes its rude
I only understand/tolerate it if the person doing the eating apologizes that they are on their lunch hour and need to make the call
I don't let it bother me to the extreme feelings you have
let it go, life is too short to get so worked up about etiquette snafu

not if your good friends and they called when you were eating...
good friends wouldnt care, they are your friends...
if it was like a business call or something, id say either take a message or put down the food for a minute
just read the rest of it... i dont consider calling a call centre a business call... they are mostly rude themselves so honestly i wouldnt care...just not important enough of a call to stop doing something for :)

I find it both. You hear them chomping down and smacking their lips while they eat and try to talk to you at the same time. And when you're trying to talk to them all you hear is chomp chomp chomp, so you don't even know if they are listening to them.
