It all depends on the point of view of the person answering the question. Myself, I always tend to see the glass half full.

However what I think you are referring to is an old Engineering Conundrum/joke which goes like this:

Q: Does an Engineer see the glass half full or half empty?
A: Neither, the glass is 2x larger than it needs to be.

It's funny if you work in the construction world. lol

I know it's "fashionable" to be an optimist, but realism has always done it for me. I was an extremely happy, positive and impressionable little boy of nine when JFK, my first hero, was murdered, and the truth about the real killer subsequently covered up forever. It was the beginning of pessimism in a young life, and it has continued to this day, followed by numerous other atrocities, both political and personal. And since it has been my opinion that all life is interconnected in some way, my cup is always half empty, even though I inevitably fill it to the brim.

Half of the glass is full. The other half is ready to be filled.

I feel the glass is half full, but woefully lacking in the big slug of whiskey that should be mixed with it.

If you want to work it is half empty.
If you want to sleep it is half full.
In both cases glass is the same with its content but your actions differ, so you have to decide which is better for you.

Half full

That depends on whether you're filling it up or drinking from it. If you're filling it up, it's half full, if you're drinking from it it's half empty.

The correct answer is BOTH...and YOUR alternative is correct as well.
Why do people have such problems with the concept of "dual meaning"?
