My puppy has become incontinent after having a spay done to her. Is this normal and how long can I expect for this to go on?

Some dogs have what they call spay incontinence after being spayed. It usually happens when thye are sleeping. Most are older. Since they have no hormones after the yspay their baldder looses some of the elasticity and they can unrinate as they sleep.
They make a medicine that you can give that will stop it form happening. Proin. It is phenylpropalamine. It works well once you get the dosage adjusted.
However this is seen most often in dogs who have been spayed years agon not just done.
You should call your vet and find out if they think something is wrong.

While incontinence is not normal after spay, it does happen. My sister's beagle is incontinent at night. My own Parson Russel was incontinent for a while and still is when excited. There is medicine to tighten the bladder sphincter, but investigate it throughly if you are going to use it.

That is not normal, I've had 3 dogs spayed/neutered & none of them have ever had any complications from the surgery! I would definitely call the vet on this one! & as the above poster wrote, that puppy was way too young to be spayed at this age!

it can be...both of my females are. although it didn't come on until about 2 years after their surgeries. i don't know if it's something the vet does wrong, or what. but it will prob. be for life. she needs to be prescribed a medication called "ppa." (phenylpropanolamine) it used to be in cold medicines...they took if it off the market for humans a few years ago. it's totally safe for animals. it's fairly inexpensive too. get your vet to rx it.

No, it's not. There may be nerve or muscle damnage... and it could be more serious than just a pee-dribble.

Take your pet back to the vet immediately.

I am a vet and it sounds like a perforated bladder that is leaking

I don't think so. My dog had the problem before I neutered him but afterwards he was fine.
