How can I tell him thats wrong and not to do it again?
He usually uses his litterbox but he finally went on the carpet. I don't want this to become a habit.

Take the poop and put it in the litterbox, showing the kitten. Say Not here!!, put it in the litterbox, put the kitten in the litterbox too, show him how to dig and cover it. It probably was an isolated incident, if he uses the litterbox usually. Kittens have some accidents sometimes, like children. It is unlikely that it will be a habit, but do show him it's wrong. Oh, and clean the carpet with soap, because cats will go again where it smells their poop.

make sure you clean that carpet so well it don't ssmell where it went, vinegar and water is very good. Then carpet cleaner. Keep the litterbox closer to where it did it. Try some unscented litter. How old is kitten? If ollder that 5 and a half months, it is spay or neuter time. Or you will have it all over, and kitty will suffer infections and then you will really will be in trouble with pee, and kitty won't be able to help it. Good luck.

If the kittens still don't use the litter box 100% then go back to newspaper for awhile then switch back to the litter box and they won't eat it and they will poop in it.

When you see that next time put him down right next to it, make sure he sees or smells it and say, NO!! My cat knows when they are in trouble cause I do that consistently if you keep doing that, they will get the hint

It most likely wont his or her litter box probley wasnt cleaned right.....
