I'm not sure what their specific likes and dislikes are, but I find my mom always likes chocolate, candle holders and scented candles, and outerwear-like scarves and hats and nice gloves.
My dad and any dad out there would probably be quite happy with some kind of holiday beer case, or wine.
If you want a combination gift, think about a nicely framed picture of the family. Also, favorite restaurant gift certificates are lovely. Also look at their favorite cds, movies, etc.
And hobby specific magazine subscriptions for both of them are good gifts, too!

It depends.. If you are still living @ home, the best gift would be IOU's for household chores.... It won't cost you anything, and believe me it will mean a lot more to them than a gift you would buy. If you do want to purchase a gift, go with a "dinner for two" gift cert. for them....If you have siblings, a group picture will mean alot.
