I'm in Shanghai right now and I noticed everyone text messaging on their phones using ping yin. I am Chinese, but born in north america so my written mandarin sucks (I speak primarily Cantonese to my parents). I was wondering if learning Ping yin while using my laptop would be the best way to really learn chinese. Note: I also did quite a bit of written mandarin while growing up..but as I get older it doesnt' stick as much.
